RFA Talk > Why do Food Addicts take the first bite
We had a wonderful meeting Monday night. The leader took it from the first 164 pages of the Big Book. It was from the chapter, "There is a Solution." She read the part of how and why does an addict go back and take the first bite or drink when she or he is abstinent or sober. The book says that he/she has no idea why he/she does this. I mentioned this to someone and he said, "because they're insane." Why would we give up this wonderful abstinent life and take the first bite. I guess because we're addicts. It says that the main problem of the food addict is in his mind, not his body.
I know I've read this over and over but it really made sense to me when I heard it at the meeting. The only way I can stay abstinent is to stay in fit spiritual condition by working the steps continuously.
I thank God every day that we have the correct information about our disease of food addiction. We do have a solution, the food plan and the 12 steps.
