RFA Talk > Starting the food plan

I am starting the abstinent food plan tomorrow, Dec 1. I have been in OA and FAA and have struggled to get 90-days. I would appreaciate any help or encouragement as I go through detox one day at a time.

Desmond--

Welcome! You are right, we do this one day at a time. What has been helpful to me is to commit food to my sponsor the day before, follow the food plan as I committed (watching for my willfulness/my ego which wants what it wants when it wants it) and then report it that evening if I did, indeed, follow the food plan. If I have to change my food plan, which at this point I do very rarely, I call or email my sponsor with the change ahead of time--that just helps keep me honest. I was told early on that committing and weighing and measuring my food was about honesty, humility and accountability. And here I thought it was about portion control.

This Friday night is the RFA phone meeting, starting at 8 PM EST. You might also find the RFA face-to-face meetings there in Maryland, there is lots of strong recovery there. Historically there has been a retreat sponsored by RFA members in Maryland every March--last year it was in Ocean City and was awesome. My phone number is 404-277-6067, you are welcome to call--leave a voicemail if I am not available and I will calll you back. I am headed to California for a workshop, back Tuesday, and will be checking my messages several times a day, so please call for support or if you have questions. After the RFA phone meeting or at face-to-face meetings, you can ask questions and get contact information from other food addicts as well.

Glad you are here!

Steve:

Thank you for the prompt reply. I have done my abstinent shopping this week and have made a 7 day food plan, based on the RFA literature. One thing I did before was to eat too many eggs and I will now limit this to 4 eggs per week. I will call you tomorrow. My phone number is 443-621-6840. Not doubt that the disease will chat to me as I go through the physical process of detox,

Desmond

hi Desmond,
Wecome to RFA Talk. Glad you are going to be getting abstinent with us. Are you close to the face to face meetings in Maryland? I hope so. feel free to call me 678-923-9452. or email kkollatl@yahoo.com
I'll call you, too, since you've included your number.

this food plan is just so great at eliminating physical cravings and providing enough food.

Are you working the Steps? At the worst of my detox, that's what everyone kept asking me. I didn't see how that was going to help, but, lo and behold, it did!

glad you are here.

Love,
Kasey

Desmond--

Men get up to 6 eggs per week (two full servings, though these can be split up). Two full servings for women is 4 eggs per week.

Desmond, welcome. The first couple of weeks are the hardest and then it gets so much easier. Welcome to a great way of living. It has been a little over a year and I have had no physical cravings of sugar, flour and wheat. It's like a miracle.
