RFA Talk > How is RFA different than FAA?

I am always curious how one food addiction or compulsion group differs from another. I was in another food group for a while and saw quite a bit of "fat serenity" and little actual recovery.

I found another group and it seemed to be shame based.

FAA seems to resonate with me, and I use Kay's food plan. Could RFA suppliment my program since there are f2f meetings close to where I live in MD? Closest FAA is 50miles away from me and I like f2f meetings.

Thanks!

Hi, Susan! I do both FAA and RFA. I am new to RFA. I actually prefer the use of the big book and 12 and 12, but we only have FAA in my town, so I go to those meetings. Please feel free to contact me. ( I also did OA for years...)
Hugs!

Thanks Heidi,
We have OA, FAIR, RFA here but the closest Faa meeting is 50 miles from me. Going to try to make it to a couple RFA meetings here this week. How do I contact you?
Blessings!

I couldn't see that this question had been answered--RFA uses the AA BIg Book and AA 12 & 12 but as I understand FAA does not (I have not been to those meetings so I can't really speak to that from experience at all). RFA does use Food Addiction: The Body Knows and From the First Bite as approved literature, and, again, from what I hear these are not approved literature for the other group--but do ask someone in that fellowship. I believe you will find people in RFA on food plans in both of Kay's books. Here in Atlanta everyone that I know of is on the food plan from From the First Bite or its latest incarnation as modified as we get new information about foods that trigger the addictive process, but others prefer the plan from the first book and apparently do fine (again, you might ask those folks, who may well be here as well on this loop).

We do have a Friday night phone meeting, check the website for more info. And welcome to everyone!

I know about the FAA side. FAA doesn't use any literature that they don't produce. The have a green book that describes the program and has a lot of stories.

They provide a booklet with instructions for working the steps.

Their food plan is very similar to the one used by RFA, though there are some differences.
