Thanks for this, Kasey! I love the "willing to feel discomfort" statement. It is so wonderful to know that I am not alone when I feel discomfort. So many others feel discomfort, stay abstinent, and are present and whole when they share in a meeting how the discomfort passed. It always does.
Today in Kay's book, I read that abstinence is just the beginning of recovery. I've heard that we have to get abstinent so we can work the Steps so we can stay abstinent. How true!!
And the longer I'm abstinent, the more I see that feed really wasn't my problem, it was my solution. the solution to a life that was gray and uncomfortable. It was easier than learning about who I really am and being that person. Instead, through my own disinterestin my own life, I created a world where daily use of food or some other substance or behavior was needed to rellieve the conflict.
Today, my sponsor reminded me that the key to staying abstinent is the willingness to feel discomfort.
For most of my life, I wasn't even aware that I was uncomfortable. What a gift to be waking up to my life and my self. Thanks to all of you who are on the path with me and esecially to our founders who didn't give up on this program. It's saving me.
Love,
Kasey
